The Steamer Idaho a rrived on the 23d. (Sunday), bringing dates to the 11 lnst.
We notice the arrival of Rev. E. Corwin, and Rev. J.F. Pogue, also Dr. W. Newcomb, formerly a resident at these islands.
We learn that the California Steam Ship Co. have decided to lay on two Steamers for this route, without accepting the subsidy from the Hawaiian Government. We are inform that a contract has been entered into by the Company with the Hawaiian Government, whereby they bind themselves to run two steamers regularly in consideration of free wharfage, water privileges &c. It is said that that the Line will be extended to Tahiti whenever a fair prospect of success appears.
The news from the United States is principally incident to the Political contest over the election of a new President.
General Grant had returned from his western trip and had arrived at Galena, his old home, and was received with the utmost enthusiasm, the entire population turning out to welcome him.

Jeff. Davis arrived at Liverpool Aug. 5th.
Queen Victoria reached Paris on the evening of the 5th. Aug. She was received at the Statium by Emperess Eugenie, and proceeded to the Tuileries.
Princess Charlotte has passed into a stage of violent madness, her fixed idea being that she is kept a prisoner by her family, and that she must escape to get to her husband at Miramon.
Dispatches from various parts of Spain represent the whole country to be in a state of disquiet; the utmost efforts of the Government are required to prevent an out break.
AUG. 7.—Cholera prevails on the Barbary Coast. In one place 556 out of a population of 3000 have died. Great havoc has been made in several other towns.
The Sublime Porte has formally proclaimed the eldest son of the Viceroy of Egypt the rightful successor to the vice regal throne, in the event of the death of Ismali Pasha.
The Pope has called a general council of the Roman Catholic Church to met in Rome, in December, 1869. There has not been such a Council convened since that of Trent, in 1545.
