FOREIGN NEWS.

We have this week further news from abroad up to the 4 of April.

The Impeachment trial of Andrew Johnson, President of the United States, occupied the attention of the Senate sitting as a Court, from day to day.

The evidence of witnesses was being taken.

A Tribune special says the counsel for the President have summoned as witnesses Generals Steadman, Sherman and Rousseau.

It had been ruled that in case of a tie the Chief Justice should have the privilege of a vote.

It is said when impeachment is over the House Committee will report in favor of appropriation for the purchase of Alaska.

New York, March 25.--The World's @ reports that Seward offered the St. Petersburg Mission to General Banks.

The President sent to the Senate his veto of the Bill amending the Judiciary act.  After considerable debate the bill passed over the President's veto by a strut party vote.

The Senate ratified the North American German Treaty, relative emigration and naturalization.  The treaty was slightly amended.

The World says twelve hundred laborers ailed in the Henry Chauncy for San Francisco in search of employment.

The most terrific storm known for many years was experienced along the Atlantic sea board and in other parts of the country about the 20 of March.  The snow drifts in some places were fifteen feet deeps as far south as Philadelphia.  the storm raged more than twenty hours, and was distractive to human life.

The President has issued an order through General Grant assigning Hancock the command of the Department of the Atlantic.  It was also reported that General Haileck would take the place of Hancock in the Department of the South West.

At San Francisco, the earthquake in that city caused a considerable stampede amongst the people.  Apparently the motion was from West to East.  The only damage done was the throwing out of plumb the brick wall of Edmundson's ware house.

The Crops of wheat and barley in California are represented as looking superbe.

The Pacific Mail Steamship Company will run 4 Steamers per month, commencing April 6.  The sailing days from San Francisco will be the 6th, 4th, 22d, and 30th : and from New York, the 1st, 9th, 16, and 24 of each month.

From Mexico we have the news that the clergy refuse to confess persons who inhabit confiscated convents.

EUROPEAN.

BERLIN.--The second session of the Parliament of the North German Confederation commenced March 23 ; King William opened the session in person, with a speech from the throne.  He promised his Government would introduce several new measures, to strengthen the Union at home and abroad.  While enumerating the various treaties which had been made with foreign Powers, he particularly alluded to the important one just concluded with the United States, which he said was designed to define and regulate the nationality and consequent national obligations of emigrants from Germany and America.  This treaty would destroy all dissension between those countries and unite more closely together nations already allied by strong bonds of commerce and race.  The King concluded his speech by expressing with marked emphasis his confidence in the permanence of peace, which he was glad to say now prevailed among the nations of Europe.

LONDON, April 1.--Dispatches from the Continent say that tumults have broken out in Grenoble, France.  It is supposed they are occasioned by the enforcement of the New Army law.  No particulars are received.

Negotiations between Prussia and Denmark in regard to the disputed territory in Schleswig-Holstein continue.  It is reported the Danish Commissioner recently asked the cession to Denmark of the island of Alsen in the Baltic, and Fortress of Duppelin on the main land.  The last telegrams say Prussia had decidedly refused the demands of Denmark.

The English Houe of commons spent the entire day and evening debating on the Irish church question.

The Revenue returns for the first quarter show deficiency of five millions sterling.

FLORENCE, April 1.--Victor Emanuel is seriously ill.  A dispatch from Rome sass the Pope is also sick.  The nature of his attack is not stated.

PARIS.--The French troops in Rome are reduced to a single brigade.

In the Corps Legislatif the bill concerning the right of public meetings was passed.  An emeute is reported to have occurred at Bordeaux.  Seditious placards appeared in Paris, Lyons, Marseilles and Bordeaux.

BERLIN.--Anti Prussian riots have taken place in the Northern part of Bavaria.  The miners riots in Belgium are spreading, and have become serious.

The Herald has a dispatch from the Abyssinian expedition.  It had arrived at Lake Ashange.  the difficulty of the expedition increases as it proceeds. The natives are hostile and the country barren, roads very bad, and King Theodore has despoiled the country far and wide.

The Abyssinian expedition has positive information that King Theodore means to fight.  The native army is in a very strong position.  Theodore's camp is surrounded by deep ravines and he has ten thousand warriors.  His works are defended by six large guns.

TheBritish Captives were safe and well on the 17 of February.
