BOARD OF HEALTH.
Comparativelv of the pub»ic have seen the Report of the €o«i--mittee apoointed by the Legislature of 1890 to enquire into the management of the Kalihi Hospital. We therefore print the finding of the Comraittee whieh was approved bv tbe X»efr3lature and on whieh the three members of the present cabinet who had seats in the Legislature voted in the affirmative. It will be seen that the Board of Health were this ordered bv the Legislature to effect cert, ain r.lterations at Kali» hi in the line of im.provjement. The pub!ic will be astonished to learn that the present Board eonsisting of MesBrs t T. 0. Cartor, J VVaterhouse, Jo!in Ina, Sarauel Parker and the ?resident l)avid Payton, bv a majority vote, not only ignored the mandate of the islature in the matter of Kalihi Hospital; but they went beyond, and improved the Hospitar ofF the face ot the earth. Talk about the three historical crankv tailors of Tooley Street v who addressed a remonstrance to a Ru9sian Euiperor in the name of the people of England; we hare got l>eyond that in the production of at least three great men who ean defy the Legislature. Tt is of course presumed j j tiiat they have the satiction of high authority for their high - banded prooeeding- bnt the titae is not far ulstant when an iniDerative deniAod will be mnde to know who rules the vita» interests of this country; the people's representativeg in Pariiament aesenibled, or a se!ect coterie chiefly self-appointed, and who enjoy the privilege—as is t,he case with the Board of Hea!th,—to sit an v£te themselves contracts? As three r\iiivisters who spoliation of Kalihi HoBpital. thev āre of course trained t acrobats in politics, but we proaiise that it will require all their iiient:i! agility to get over the questioii of whv th ?y turned their bftcka on themselves and their vote; and Jast but not least, they will be required to state reasoim | for their betrayal of the sacred | tfast reposed in thenrby the people throngb their Repref?entatives. ; u Th«Report will appear to-morrow."
