KA LEO O KA LAHUI.

"E Mau ke Ea o ka Aina i ka Pono."

Flat Justitia Ruat Ceelma,

We admire and honor the Supreme Court of the kingdom for their dignified decision on the question of the Queen's prerogative. Their concise statement makes the question positively clear; and it is strange that otherwise intelligent minds in any city could have had any other view, unless it be that they were blinded with partizan prejudice or their brains clotted with revolutionary blood.  Once again have our Supreme Court upheld their honored motto, and we feel assured that the foreign nations who are watching us will respect and approve of the record now made in our Court.

Hic Jacet.

The last cabinet of the late King is out of office and no one regrets it.  They were unpopluar for the start, they represented no party, or principle, and though they pledged themselves to the platform of the National Reform Party, through whom they acquired offce, they soon showed the cloven hoof and proved treacherous to that party.  The foreign interference that assisted at the formation of the cabinet, caused a wide-spread distrust of their policy. They were dominated by one man, not the Premier, and evolved a policy of stupid inaction, lapsing into a condition of political desuctude.  Their only activity was displayed when they wished to make a place for a friend, or exercise their spites against their victims. The politically imbecile character of one; the cunning spiteful and treacherous temperament of another; the self protecting acumen of a third, and the promiscuous and unfulfilled promises of tho@ other made a sad commentarty upon the name, purpose and dignity of government.  Their brief term is ended for lack of admirers or friends, and thus closes the career of a cabinet that will be neither distinguished or memorable.

Candida Pax.

We congratulate the country upon the acceptable termination of the contention between the Queen and the Ministers. The majority of the honest thinking people are pleased at the retirement of an unpoplular cabinet and the native Hawaiians are proud of their Queen, who has maintained what remnant is left to her of the dignities and prerogatives of sovereignty that have been so brutally trampled on of the late years.  The late "disability" Cabinet being now removed it is to hoped that the new Queen's reign will begin in peace and continure in prosperity, and realize all the bright promise that to our fancies seemed contained in that beautiful rainbow that areaed over the Palace with a radiant halo on the day when the King's corpse was landed. We believe that the Queen might have had a stronger and more poplular @ than she has commissioned, but under the circumstances we will be satisfied and will judge these gentlemen by their nature deeds.  Mr. Widemann was the leader of the National Reform party in the recent legislature and as such had the confidence of his party.  Mr. Parker is a representative Hawaiian and as a noble allied himself with the same cause of the native Hawaiians.  Mr. Whiting is a new ha@@, but is known to be a friend of Hawaiians and of Hawaiian interests, and we trust he will not disappoint us in the opportunity afforded him to make a name and record for himself.  We are surprised at the restoration of Mr. Spencer for he was not true to the party who placed him in power notably in connection with the Post Office; and there are many men chewing the cud of despair at his numerous unfulfilled promises.  But we will blot out the past record and trust he will begin again upon a more dignified and honorable plan.  We note with satisfaction that there is such a fair representation of the National Reform Party in the cabinet.  It is a tardy though a proper retrieve of the gross - injustice done to our party when that wretched compromise cabinet was foisted upon the country.  It was with no uncertain purpose that the native votes and their sympathizers arose "en masse" a year ago and voted down the Reform Government, and they feel keenly the violation of pledges and insults to which they have since been treated by the compromise cabinet.  The present cabinet may gain popularity by repairing the errors of their predecessors; and by reading over the "Declaration of Principles" upon which the National Reform Party went before the country, and which is-yet the popular platform with the majority of votes in this kingdom.  We would also remind the cabinet that there are yet some highly unfit and objectionable individuals holding office, whom the late cabinet pledged themselves to remove, but whom they defiantly retained.  We wish the cabinet a successful and untrammeled administraion, but shall stand ready to severely criticise and condem them, if they wander from the paths of loyalty of political rec@tude.  Vivet Regina.
