THE PRINCE'S BIRTHDAY

Commemorating the birthday -orPrince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole was a coeoput tree planting ceremony held at the Federal Build><ig±>y members of the community and government. The guest speaker was Dr. Richard K. Blaisdell of the University's Medical School, who spoke of Kuhio's life and achievements for the Hawaiian people. Joining in the ceremonies were Mr. David Peters, the Rev. Edward Kealanahele, Mr. Richard Lyman Jr., Prince Edward Kawananakoa, Mrs. Agnes Cope, Mr. Wendell P.K. Silva, Mrs. Martha Flanigan, Chief Judge Samuel P. King, Admiral Emery A. Grantham, and Mrs. James Knepler. Also in attendance were Representative Kina'u Kamali'i and. ke alii wahine Pa Terito Ariki from the Cook Islands and members of Hawaiian societies. Music for the ceremonies was performed by ~The Royal Hawaiian Band and The Prince Kuhio Hawaiian Civic Club Choral Group. Also celebrating the birthday fo Prince Kuhio was the publishing company of Mr. & Mrs. John Dominis Holi: IV with the piib!ication of "The Empty Throne" writtenby Lori Kuulēi Kamae. This is the first lengthy biography about Kuhio to bepublished. The party was held at the Willow's Restaurant in Honolulu with guests from a wide range of, arid those associated with, the Hawaiian community. Following a light supper, the entertainment was impromptu with classieal hulas performed by Emma De Fries, Ida Naone, Ernest Kai, Myron Thqmp.9€m āird many others. Ttiis was truely a party to have been given and enjoyed by the Prince himself.
