Song Festival and Song Composing Contest
The Annual Song Festival and Song Composing Contest were held at Queen Kapi'olani Park Bandstand on March 9thby the Dejprtment of Parks & Recreation. This program was dedicated to and honored Aliee Namakelua for her service and love to the Parks' program in Hawaiiana. Many of her own compositions were sung by elders and children during the program. This was followed by the song composing contest whieh had four entries: "Makekau" and "Mealani" by Albert Evenson and Nieki Hines; "He Mele no Hiti Hiwahiwa" by Stanley Kapepa; and "Kaupo'* by John Sabely and Anna Fautt. After mueh deliberation, the judges, George Hookano, Milton Carter and Dale Suenaga, selected "Kaupo" year's winner.
