In last month's issue we printed an article abōut an innovative Canadian school at" Alert Bay, British Columbia. This was the first article to appear after we had established tiēs with two native Canadian-Indian newspapers>from the B.C. area. One of our editors the West Coast of the mainland last November to contact Hawaiians living there, and in doing so visited the offices of The Native Voice and the ÜBCIC News in Vancouver, Canada. The Native Voice is the official organ of the Native Brotherhood of British Columbia and the ÜBCIC News is the official newspaper of the Union of B.C. Indian Chiefs. We wanted td establish some lines of communication becāuse we believe we share mueh in eommon, historically and in the present, with the people of the Northwest area. Our people have fong had a history in the development of the lumber, fishing, fur trades and gold mining industry on the West Coast in the past and many of our loeal people are still moving there to live. We have discovered that these two newspapers were founded and operate with the same intentions and purposes as Ke Alahou, and we hope that by continuing our friendship we may learn new ideas, to understand the lives of other peoples outside *of these islands and to expand services between the natives of the Northwest coast and our own people,. We. will continue tQ print articles from The Native Voice and ÜBCIC News whieh we feel will broaden our knowledge of their live and cultUre.
