TO LABOR IN FOREIGN FIELD

REV. SCUODER MAY RETURN. Called to Japan. Where He Will Make Tokyo His Headquarters—Formerly Pastor of Congregational Church in Boston. Rev. D. Scudder. for some time past pastor of the First Congregational church at Woodburn. Mass., a prosperous suburb of Boston, is now in the city and the guest of Rev. O. H. Ouli< k at his home on Atapai, near King street. Rev. Scudder arrived yesterday in the City of Peking. He is on his way to Japan, where he contemplates entering the missionary field at Tokyo. However, work in the land of the Mikado Is not an entirely new proposition to Rev. Scudder. * Some twelve years ago he was del-gated to that country, and. remaining there five years, the teacher and pastor accomplished a grand and good work in the foreign field. The time set apart for Rev, Scudder's tarry in the Orient upon the present occasion is much shorter, and he expects to have completed his la hors before a year elapses. Rev. Scudder veil! remain in this city until the arrival of the Gaelic from San Francisco for the Orient, which will probably arrive at this port January 2Sth. He will take passage in that vessel for Japan. There *s a strong possibility of Rev. Scudder s being called to tbe Hawaiian field upon the termination of his labors in the Orient. In such rase nis work would be carried out under the auspices of the Hawaiian Board of Missions, and the missionary labors would be devoted entirely to the Japanese now residing in thes- Islands.
