MERRY MAIDENS JUST ESGAPE WITH LIVES

NEW YORK. Jan. 1— Miner’s Eight avenue Theat r was destroyed by fire early this morn ; ng. “The Merry Maidens” burlesque show had just given a long performance, and the audience had been out of the building only about fifteen minutes when the fire was started. It was caused by a lighted cigarette. The theater building was old and four stories high. After the fire started the chorus girls and employes of the theater fied to the street in a panic. It is believed they all got out safely.
