“Hon. James H. BIonnt took the oath of oftice yesterday afternoon before UnitedStatesCousul- I General Severance. He is now to ull intents and pnrposes United States Minister to Hawaii, aeting under full authority as Envov Extraodinary and Minister Plenipotentiary, He will probahly present his credentials at the Hawaiian foreign oftice to day. Hon. John L. Stevens, ex-Min-ister to Hawaii, received instructions from Washington yesterday to turn over the Pnited States Legation, together with the archives.and records, to the now minister. This will be done without delay. It will be encouraging to the public to know that Hawaii will be left. nponthedeparture of Hon. J. L. Stevens, under the care of a eapahle, wise aud just United States representativo like Minister Blount, actiug with ful authority and discretionary power. He has already won the confideuce of all classes of onr citizens; there is no shadow of doubt that he will continue to receive the raoral support of all c:tizens interested in the establishment and mainteuance of just, popular and stable govern*ient in Hawaii.” — P.
