An Anglican Bishop's Elocation.

“When I tirst arrived in NewZealand,” said an Anglican “a Maori chief eame to me and eaid that he wished to be biptized. I knew that he had two wives, so I told him that he must first persuade one of them to return to her famiiy. He said he feared that woold be difficult; but that he would see what could be done and eome haek to me 5n two months. When he returned, he exclaimed: ‘Now, raissionary, you may baptize me, for I have only one wife.’ I asked:‘What haveyou done with our dear sister, your tirst wife?’ He rephed, smacking his lips:‘I have eaten her.’ ”
